At Newzoo, we collect and correlate data from various sources to provide our clients with an accurate view of the gaming and esports landscape. We are looking for a Data Engineer who has a passion for games and esports to join us as we build our analytics platform.

In this role, you will be working in our data quality team and you will take ownership of our data ingest. What does this mean in practice? You will write scrapers to collect data from new sources. You will help us build our data lake and warehouse so that the data we collect can be easily consumed by other teams within the company. Together with our analysts you will also have the opportunity to help us build and refine our data models.

What’s It Like To Work Here

You will be part of the Engineering and Product Development team based out of our office in Amsterdam, a 10 minute cycle ride from Amsterdam Centraal. There are about 15 people in the group, though we are expanding. You will work closely with other departments within Newzoo, e.g. our analysts and data partnership teams.

In terms of team culture, we are relaxed. We work with Scrum, in weekly sprints. We adopt an accountability-based management style. We do not micromanage, instead communication channels within the team is open. Project management is done in a collaborative manner, you will contribute towards setting the weekly sprint goals (i.e. what we are committing to building that week). We expect you to be self-motivated and self-organising. We encourage experimenting with new technologies. We are Agile.

Your Profile

We want to hear from candidates who have built data processing pipelines, particularly individuals who are driven and resourceful. Will you be stumped by a data source that does not expose an API or will you see it as a challenge? Are you keen on learning and self-development? What went well in your last project and what could be improved?

Will you be willing to try new technologies and approaches?

You should have a few years of professional experience as a data engineer, with a proven track record of building data collectors. High preference will be given to candidates who have experience in the technologies we use.

  • PostgreSQL or equivalent
  • BigQuery
  • Docker and Kubernetes
  • CI/CD (CircleCI)

We would particularly like to hear from candidates with experience in Kafka, Spark and Elasticsearch.
