New York, USA

Job Level: Intermediate

Contract: Full Time

Sector: Public Relations

Overtime is looking for an incredibly organized and creative storyteller to spearhead our PR and Communications efforts.

This person, who would serve as Overtime’s first in-house PR hire, will be responsible for developing and executing the company’s overall PR strategy, working closely with Overtime’s leadership and its marketing team.

The ideal candidate must be a strong writer and a quick thinker, with the skills to translate those thoughts into writing that’s clear, concise and persuasive. The ideal candidate also has strong existing media relationships and a proven ability to establish and cultivate substantive new media relationships.

The person in this role will develop and pitch news about Overtime to a wide variety of media covering the convergence of sports, media, and technology. In doing so, they will work on stories and announcements touching every aspect of Overtime’s business, from the launch of new series and brand campaigns to the growth of our team and our expansion into new sports, new markets, and new business ventures.

About Overtime

Based in NYC, Overtime is funded by top VC firms like Andreessen Horowitz, Spark Capital, Greycroft Ventures, and Sapphire Ventures, as well as athletes, including Kevin Durant, Carmelo Anthony, and the late NBA commissioner David Stern. Overtime is building the biggest sports network in the world for the next generation of fans. We use tech, new platforms, and new formats to drive a billion video views every month. We publish our short-form content and long-form series across 7 platforms focusing on basketball, football, soccer, and gaming. We own a pro esports team, have a fast-growing apparel business, and basically do everything differently from a standard media company. Overtime is led by seasoned entrepreneurs with deep experience in the intersecting worlds of sports and media, and a strong track record of building successful startups and guiding them through acquisition.

What you'll do

  • Help tell Overtime’s story through compelling writing, from press releases to contributed articles, and more.
  • Maintain and expand Overtime media relationships with key reporters, editors and analysts covering sports and the video and media businesses.
  • Manage Overtime’s ongoing news announcements, partnering closely and collaboratively with teams across the company.
  • Proactively develop creative story ideas about Overtime, guiding the process from idea and pitch through to the final story.
  • Provide counsel on inbound media requests, and manage preparation for media interviews and speaking engagements.
  • Help build Overtime’s brand and industry awareness through speaking submissions, award nominations and more.
  • Monitor and analyze ongoing press coverage about Overtime and the industry.
  • Additional daily activities may include supporting the marketing team, as needed.

Who you are

  • You are a skilled writer who can communicate clearly and intentionally. You are comfortable drafting communications for a variety of purposes.
  • You’re a strategic thinker as well as a doer. You can think big-picture and also roll up your sleeves to get the job done. You have honed the ability to multitask and prioritize assignments in order to anticipate and meet multiple deadlines.
  • You have strong media relations skills. You have solid existing relationships and (more importantly) a passion for consistently building and nurturing new relationships with reporters and editors covering sports, media, and sports media.
  • Creative. You're able to conceptualize newsworthy moments, develop story ideas even when the hook isn't obvious to most, and follow through with pitches that land great media.
  • Results-oriented. You're able to measure success and report on what's working and what's not so we can iterate and improve on a regular basis.
  • You’re flexible. Overtime is a fast-moving, high-growth startup where every day brings new opportunities and challenges. You should find that invigorating, and be able to adapt in fluid environments.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Communications, Journalism or a related field.
  • 5+ years of experience in communications, preferably within the media or advertising space.
  • Extremely strong writing abilities.
  • Excellent organization, communication, and interpersonal skills.
  • Hard-working with a "no task is too small" attitude.
