Weekly Esports Jobs Roundup #1

Here are a few interesting statistics from our working week before we jump into the really good stuff:

  • In the last seven days we've posted a total of 55 jobs from 39 companies in 7 different countries. 39 of these were full-time paid positions (70.9%), 2 were part-time paid (3.6%), 7 were freelance paid (12.7%), 6 were volunteer (10.9%) and just 1 was an internship (1.8%).

Moving forward we'll aim to provide you with a fair representation of the roles we post every week, because we know not everyone is looking for full-time career roles.

That being said, let's get the ball rolling with six of the best full-time roles we’ve had submitted, starting with this doozy from the National Football League:

The successful candidate will lead the strategic planning, partner management and execution of the League's gaming efforts across all platforms.

Key Responsibilities

  • Work closely with key gaming partners to develop and achieve financial plans and KPIs
  • Monitor ongoing performance of licensing partnerships with key gaming licensees
  • Proactively identify both opportunities for improved performance and potential operating challenges

Key Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in a business-related or technology field (advanced degree is a plus), along with a proven track record of success
  • A minimum of ten (10) years of prior work experience, with at least seven (7) years of experience in gaming or a related sector

The National Football League weren't the only big-time sports organisation hiring in esports this week, though! Major League Soccer also got in on the act:

MLS are continually looking for new channels to serve and grow their fan base, esports and gaming are an exciting avenue for them to achieve these goals.

Key Responsibilities

  • Facilitate the launch of MLS eSports and gaming initiatives
  • Manage execution of MLS eSports and gaming programming components, including live events, content, sponsorships, etc.
  • Advise and assist Clubs in developing and executing eSports and gaming strategies

Key Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree
  • 5-8+ years of experience in sports and/or eSports/gaming marketing

The NBA have been ahead of the curve for a while when it comes to esports and gaming, so it was no surprise to see another opportunity with one of the NBA 2K League teams:

They're looking for someone to develop, manage, coach and support an NBA 2K team on all strategies, communication, coordination and logistics.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage team house environment to ensure players have an optimal living environment
  • Facilitate communication between members of the NBA 2k team in a productive and effective manner
  • Develop an assessment for players and track player progress, including physical, spiritual, and mental growth

Key Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree
  • Previous experience with coaching and/or team building (traditional sports/esports experience highly preferred)

Not all of the jobs we posted were from sporting organisations, of course, Nvidia are the biggest visual computing technology company around and they're also making a huge impact on the esports scene:

Did you know that there are over 100 million gamers around the world playing games competitively on Nvidia hardware, with nearly all professional PC eSports tournaments being powered by Nvidia? No? Well you do now!

Key Responsibilities

  • Define and execute Nvidia’s product strategy for the eSports market
  • Lead the cross-functional marketing, engineering, and partnership teams to build and launch new products targeted at eSports
  • Drive the global product go-to-market including product messaging, ecosystem strategy, and launch plan

Key Requirements

  • Competed in or broadcasted eSports on a professional level, or are deeply involved in the eSports ecosystem
  • MBA from a top rated university plus 10 years of related experience

By the same token, not every job we posted this week was a business and/or marketing one! We also had this very unique administrative role from Team Liquid come up on Thursday afternoon:

They require an administrative assistant who will take charge of the daily management of their headquarters.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage, organize, and update management calendars and schedules on a daily basis
  • Manage a list of overflow correspondence, take down notes on the appropriate response, and manage communications on behalf of upper management
  • Communicate with event coordinators and organize management schedules; send necessary documentation and review bookings and reservations

Key Requirements

  • Excellent written and verbal English
  • Excellent critical-thinking and problem solving skills
  • Excellent multi-tasking and ability to manage multiple staff across multiple projects simultaneously

You might be sensing a pattern here, but don't worry because while most jobs that we post are based in the USA we do also have strong representation in Europe too. Take this next role from Polish company Kinguin as a great example of that:

They are currently looking for a highly motivated individual with a great personality and strong coaching skills to join their Warsaw team as Business Coach.

Key Responsibilities

  • Initiate and support cultural change towards a continuous development
  • Improve motivation, work atmosphere, efficiency and effectiveness as well as deploying future state processes
  • Train and guide the operational teams to improve the performance and effectiveness of the organization

Key Requirements

  • At least 5 years’ experience in a similar position
  • University degree (Psychology, Sociology or similar)
  • Coaching certificate (e.g. ICC, ICF)

You can see all of the full-time roles we posted on the board this week right here, but let's move on to our favourite part-time position of the week, which is based in London, England and comes from the creator of the Esports Roundtable podcast:

Joe Hills is his name and he's a long time gaming fanatic and four-year veteran of the executive search industry. He founded the Looking For Group in 2016 to try and solve esports' recruitment problem.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assisting in the development of the Roundtable’s social media strategy; carrying out its execution with the aim of connecting with potential audience members
  • Regularly keeping the Roundtable’s social media channels up-to-date with the latest information and moderating consumer discussions
  • Gauging and relaying the views of the audience to the producers, ensuring the show remains relevant and attractive in a constantly evolving market

Key Requirements

  • Someone who lives and breathes esports as a long-time gamer and current active fan in the industry/showing an interest in getting up to speed
  • Expert written skills appropriate to social media is vital. As is an up-to-date understanding on how to maximise the potential of these services

An AVGL Community Manager acts as the direct contact between the organisation and the college esports/gaming community. Most of their interaction takes place on social media and through Discord.

Key Responsibilities

  • Become a part of the AVGL community and help grow collegiate esports as an entity
  • Adhere to AVGL brand guidelines and interact with the community in a professional manner
  • Follow a content schedule and set weekly goals

Key Requirements

  • Previous experience in an esports, collegiate, or gaming community position
  • Complete understanding of Twitter, Tweetdeck, Facebook, Instagram, Reddit and Twitch
  • Personable with a sense of humor

We couldn't complete a weekly roundup without something for our younger readers and so this one's for you guys and girls who are at college and looking to take your first steps into the scene:

This is a paid position meant to train young researchers on how a day-to-day media and creative services operation works. The successful applicant will research one of Kill Screen's three big tent poles (esports).

Key Responsibilities

  • Scour the video game and cultural landscape daily in search of new ideas
  • Produce summaries for senior staff on highlights
  • Research for new business pitches

Key Requirements

  • Current college student
  • Ability to commit to 4 hours of work a week for 3 months
