Player Profile

  • Must be continuing education in Fall of 2020 pursuing a bachelors or masters degree
  • Available for a 12-week internship starting in late May or late June
  • Passionate about learning what it takes to be a successful game designer in the video game industry
  • Ability to receive feedback and implement

Internship Opportunities & Requirements

Central Design (Santa Monica, CA):

Design Intern: Join the Central Design team located at Activision HQ and support their efforts to evaluate new and interesting game design and IP. Collaborate with a small team of game makers on a variety of creative challenges, including core gameplay, UI/UX and game economics.

  • Currently pursuing a degree in game development or a field that focuses on at least one aspect of game development (design, engineering, art, audio, UI/UX, business development, product management, marketing, etc.)
  • Basic understanding of the game development process (concepts, prototypes, level design, testing, etc.)
  • Must have a passion for video games and be familiar with titles on console, PC and mobile
  • Deep existing knowledge of the gaming industry (major titles, genres, trends, etc.)
  • Ability to conduct in-depth research, analyse qualitative data, define a problem within the industry or business, then propose your own solutions
  • Adept at creating structured and creative PowerPoint presentations

Infinity Ward (Woodland Hills, CA):

Single Player or Co-Op Mode Design Intern: Join Infinity Ward’s Game Design team on one of their upcoming games. In this internship, you will have the opportunity to assist with the video game design pipeline including mission scripting, global mechanics, and game mode prototypes.

  • Proficiency with object-oriented scripting and programming
  • Experience with a game editor (ex. Unreal, Unity, or COD mod tools)
  • Technical artistic skills a plus (ex. 3D animation, modelling, photoshop, etc.)
  • Game design portfolio is a plus

Toys for Bob (Novato, CA):

Design Intern: Someone in this role will be joining the studio during their final months of game development. This would be an exciting internship for anyone who is interested in learning how a AAA game is launched. Join the level design team and fix remaining bugs that are found within the game’s levels

  • Experience with Unreal
  • Game design school projects or personal projects clearly outlined your resume
  • Programming/scripting experience in C/C++, Lua or other languages is a plus
  • Game design portfolio is a plus

Vicarious Visions (Albany, NY):

Design Intern: Join one of Vicarious Visions many Game Design teams

World: Create gameplay experiences including missions, encounters and other content driven moments.

AI: Build compelling bosses, enemies and encounters.

Core Gameplay: Design, craft and implement a robust sandbox of gameplay systems.

Systems: Drive long-term player engagement through various game wide systems such as XP and rewards.

UX: Identify and mitigate game-to-user communication issues to provide cohesive, predictable and desirable effects.

Audio: Compose and implement audio to create an immersive experience.

Narrative: Assist in creating immersive story-driven experiences that reinforce the game’s context and deepens the player experience.

  • Familiarity with 3D level design tools (Kismet, Maya, Max, or similar 3D editor)
  • Intuitive understanding of how action games work and why people play them
  • Programming/scripting experience in C/C++, Lua or other languages is a plus

Raven Software (Middleton, WI) :

Design Intern: Create gameplay experiences including missions, encounters and other content driven moments.

AI: Build compelling bosses, enemies and encounters.
