The part-time Head Coach/Coordinator of Esports is responsible for the short- and long-term development of the esports program and will oversee the esports teams, facility, special events and associated programs. This includes the strategic planning of marketing, recruitment and student success efforts, and the organization and administration of all aspects of the esports program, including budget development, scheduling, purchasing, facility maintenance, public relations, community outreach, and implementation of the National Association of Collegiate Esports (NACE) policies and regulations. This position will also coordinate coaching sessions to develop individual and team potential in select games, and will serve to mentor the student gamers in their holistic development.

Education Required

Bachelor’s degree from a four-year college or university

Experience Required

Minimum of two years of multiplayer online gaming experience, preferably at competitive level

Skills, Characteristics Required for Position

  • Ability to articulate a vision for a premier esports program in a Christian college context;
  • Ability to administer an esports program, including recruiting, scheduling, budgeting, and coordinating competition schedules and as-needed travel for a pre-determined roster size;
  • Ability to coordinate and evaluate the coaching, teaching, and training of students in skills and strategies specific to esports to be competitive within the Middle Atlantic/Commonwealth Conferences;
  • Ability to establish appropriate and effective mentoring relationships with students, including a team grade point average of 3.0 and a retention rate of 82 percent;
  • Demonstrated knowledge and understanding of the stages of student development and the importance of holistic education;
  • Good judgment and problem solving skills;
  • Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing; and
  • Demonstrated commitment to continued learning/professional development (i.e., presentations, publications, serving on regional and/or national committees)

Special Working Conditions

Required to work weekends and evenings as needed.

Primary Duties

  1. Administer esports program, including recruiting, scheduling, budgeting, travel and practice plans for a pre-determined roster size.
  2. Provide leadership in establishing, regulating, publicizing, and enforcing all team regulations regarding personal conduct. Ensure that personal conduct, policies, procedures, and regulations of organizations to which the college belongs, including the National Association of Collegiate Esports (NACE).
  3. Organize and implement a successful esports recruiting program, including summer camps.
  4. Establish and maintain appropriate and effective mentoring relationships with student gamers, including a team grade point average of 3.0 and a retention rate of 82 percent.
  5. Coordinate and evaluate as-needed coaching sessions, ensuring that effective principles, techniques, strategies, and methods to achieve proficiency in games is happening; observe student gamers during practice to determine opportunities for growth.
  6. Ensure that all esports participants have completed all required eligibility forms prior to participating.
  7. Organize and conduct competition and tournaments. Cooperate with college staff/officials in directing the preparation of facilities to be used in competition for home contests.
  8. Develop and maintain Twitch channel and esports website, including, but not limited to roster, schedule, stories, etc.
  9. Provide leadership to service learning projects/missions experiences on an annual basis.
  10. Maintain consistent and reliable attendance.
