OverActive Media (OAM) is an integrated global company delivering esports and video game entertainment. OAM combines team ownership with audience engagement to better connect with fans, franchise partners and corporate sponsors around the world. OAM owns the Toronto Defiant of the Overwatch League, a League of Legends European Championship series franchise and recently won the rights to a Toronto-based Call of Duty World League franchise -- making it the world’s only esports organization to own teams in the three biggest franchised leagues. OAM also recently fully acquired Rochester, NY’s Splyce Inc., which operations regional teams in various other esports, including Rocket League, Smite and Starcraft II. OAM is headquartered in Toronto, Canada.

POSITION OVERVIEW

Reporting to the Senior Manager, Player Operations and based in Toronto Canada, the Call of Duty (COD) General Manager is an integral member of the Team Operations function and involves full spectrum administration of the Call of Duty franchise team to include everything from consultation on long term goals, to day to day budgetary accountability. The COD GM is centrally responsible for drafting, implementation and upkeep of the systems that run the COD franchise, internally, interdepartmentally and externally.

An Esports Fan - Extensive esports and team management knowledge is a requirement for this role.

CORE RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Maintain Call of Duty industry knowledge and an understanding of the community and pro scene, while maintaining deep connections in the Call of Duty scene.
  • In depth esports industry knowledge, including long-standing relationships with other professional teams and players.
  • Day to day operations of the COD franchise on an internal team basis. The COD GM is responsible for the smooth operation of all staff and players in the unit.
  • Create and adhere to budgets for the COD franchise in conjunction with the Head Coach and SVP - Performance.
  • Directly responsible for hiring COD support staff hiring, including but not limited to cleaning services, sport psychologists, english tutors, etc.
  • Regular reporting to the Team Operations function of OAM.
  • Manage communication channels for Performance Systems Division to work seamlessly with COD coaching staff.
  • Offer mentorship and continual feedback to staff. Maintain monthly staff feedback program to better gauge staff progress/performance.
  • Assist Operations with accurate maintenance of up to date player record to include contracts, reports on player behavior, tax/benefit paperwork, etc.
  • Keep a pulse on all player social media on a regular basis, to ensure organizational and partnership standards are maintained, flagging any issues/concerns to the OAM marketing team immediately.
  • Leading by example, ensure all League and organization standards are maintained by players and staff both in-game and on social media.
  • Act as the main liaison between the team and the League during the Season and is the first point of contact (POC) for them during the Competitive Season.
  • Travel with COD team to all venues in order to maintain interaction with the League and address any issues at the team level.
  • Work closely with the COD Performance Coach to identify problem areas within the team and request support from Senior Manager, Performance Systems as needed.

REQUIREMENTS

QUALIFICATIONS AND CRITICAL SKILLS

Education and Experience

  • College Diploma or University Degree in Business Administration or a related field, or equivalent administrative or managerial experience considered an asset.
  • Previous sports or esports management experience is required.
  • Legal ability to work in Canada (Citizen or Work Visa) required
  • Passion for Call of Duty

  • Excellent organizational, time management and communication skills (both written and verbal) with the flexibility and experience required to adjust to rapidly changing schedules and shifting priorities;
  • A hands-on problem solver and critical thinker with strong attention to detail
  • Motivated by highly collaborative, fast-paced environments, with the ability to balance several projects simultaneously.
