Reporting to the General Manager, Toronto Call of Duty (COD) and based in Toronto, Canada, the Head Coach is a key member of the franchise’s leadership team and owns all aspects of the team’s in-game performance. The Head Coach will partner with leaders across relevant disciplines to best support player development while also managing coaching and analytical staff performance at a day-to-day level. This role is a great opportunity for coaches in traditional sports who have a love for esports and want to bring their skills over to an exciting new industry.

We’re looking for:

  • A Leader – The successful candidate is expected to lead by example, demonstrating the level of professionalism, commitment, and performance that they expect from their players, Assistant Coaches, and Analysts.
  • A Lifestyle Strategist – This person will assist in the design and execution of short-term and long-term out-of-game performance strategies, including schedules, roster changes, and lifestyle improvements.
  • An Esports Fan – Previous esports experience is not required, but a passion and genuine interest in learning about this industry is a must.

REQUIREMENTS

CORE RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Build and implement a comprehensive, structured performance strategy, focusing on the continued development of players’ in-game mechanics and situation awareness (“game sense”).
  • Work with the General Manager, Strategic Coach, and SVP - Team Operations to identify and acquire key players.
  • Collaborate with the General Manager to create and adhere to annual franchise budgets.
  • Submit weekly reports on the team’s performance and improvement plans to Performance Systems divisional leadership.
  • Work closely with the Performance Systems division to identify problem areas within the team and request additional support from the Senior Manager, Performance Systems as needed.
  • Offer mentorship and continual feedback to team coaches and analysts. Empower staff to take ownership and make decisions as part of the team’s success and their individual professional development.
  • Travel with COD team to all venues in order to ensure execution of team strategies and to gather performance data for event post-mortems.
  • Develop personal Call of Duty industry knowledge and establish professional connections with other franchises in the league.

QUALIFICATIONS & CRITICAL SKILLS

  • Previous coaching experience with a professional or semi-professional conventional sports or esports team is required.
  • College Diploma or University Degree in Psychology, Sports Psychology, Coaching, Leadership, or a related field is considered an asset.
  • Excellent organizational, time management, and communication skills (both written and verbal) with the flexibility and experience required to adjust to rapidly-changing schedules and shifting priorities.
  • Ability to build team cultures that foster respect and open communication for all members.
  • Legal ability to travel internationally is required. Candidates currently located in the Greater Toronto Area are highly preferred.
  • A passion for Call of Duty and the esports industry.
