Summary of Duties

As part of the university Esports staff, the Esports Coordinator focuses on direct contact and leadership of Ohio State students with interests in gaming, from casual to intercollegiate competition. Supervised by the Esports Program Director and in coordination with the Esports Operations Manager, the program coordinator provides leadership to student members of official Ohio State Esports teams as well as connect with the broader Esports student community through the Esports arena and across campus; focuses on the extraordinary student gamer experience through consultation with students on academic, physical and social development needs; provides recommendations for new and innovative approaches to collegiate Esports to leagues, tournaments and governing organizations; instructs and coaches student Esports team managers, players and analysts; coordinates team tryouts; oversees practice and fitness schedules; reviews competitive student team member academic progress and address any student conduct needs necessary; implements and coordinates official Ohio State Esports team competitive tryout, selection and coaching structures; partners with Recreational Sports, Student Wellness, Student Life Marketing, Technology Services and additional Student Life and university departments on programs design to improve student-gamer performance and enhance well-being; oversees community engagement partnerships and events; coordinates efforts around community outreach to youth in and around the community. This is a one year term role.

Required Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in sports management, business, computer science, information systems or an equivalent combination of education and experience; at least one year of proven experience in collegiate esports as an organizer, leader or coach; experience in club/organization-level esports and awareness of esports tournament rules, scheduling and administration; working knowledge of Windows and Max OS X operating systems in a networked environment; strong oral and communication skills.

Desired Qualifications

At least one year of proven experience as a collegiate esports team manager/coach; at least one year of proven experience in an esports tournament organizer role, working with game publishers on licensing and compliance; knowledge of alternative media production techniques, including live-streaming and competitive network games; detailed knowledge of and at least two years of experience working with gaming technologies and participants, including hardware and software.
