Join the University of Southern California as we push the boundaries of the collegiate scene in Overwatch. We are searching for a talented coach for our Tespa Varsity Overwatch team who can help our players grow both in and out of the game. Our coach will be working with the players in USC’s very own Varsity Training “Firehouse,” a facility dedicated to allowing the players to work together in a space to call their own.

Overwatch Coaching Role

Job title: Overwatch Coach Consultant

Level: Junior (1-2yr EXP)

Position: Part Time (Paid)

Location: Local Preferred, Remote

Reports to: Team Manager, USC Esports Union Faculty

Job Description/Responsibilities:

  • Attend regular scrims to coach the team
  • Work with individual players when necessary to improve core mechanics and gameplay decisions
  • Develop strong player communication, team bonding, and foster and environment that encourages both positive and critical feedback in constructive ways
  • Evaluate and provide reports on players’ performance, strategies, and drafts
  • Assist in recruitment, training, and selection of players for the 2019–2020 academic year
  • Review Tespa regulation and USC Athletic Etiquette with the team to maintain compliance
  • Work with student leaders and USC Faculty to foster student program development
  • Attend (remotely, or in-person if possible) USC exhibition matches, Tespa games, and any other major competitive matches to support players with team composition, post-game discussion, and encouragement for further games in the series


  • Comprehensive knowledge of Overwatch regarding team composition, player hero pool, ultimate economy, and team synergy
  • 1+ years of coaching experience within esports in a similar position or higher
  • Abilities to work online/in-game for VOD review with notation software are appreciated
  • Comprehension of how and why metas are defined and shift over time
  • Strong communication skills including online messaging (Discord), email, and documentation
  • Leadership skills with strong attention to detail
  • Situational awareness and judgement to foster positive and encouraging environments
  • Competitive ranking masters or higher is appreciated
